The Alexander Arrangement of the Elements (AAE) 3D Periodic Table concept is a particularly effective way to introduce the Periodic Table concept to beginning students. The process of filling in the boxes with colors for the element properties iniates the interactivity - which, of course, can be duplicated by any 2D blank chart. The interactive learning continues with completion of the data in the boxes to the extent and in the sequences determined by the lesson. The AAE permits departure from the ordinary and encourages students to think outside the box and off the sheet of paper ! The construction of the 3D model, the key feature of the value of the Alexander Arrangement, a participatory and kinesthetic activity, has the student physically handle specific segments of the 7-3/4" tall table, form them into objects occupying space, and deliberately place them in their proper (sequential and contiguous) locations relative to all the other elements and groups, helping them to learn the names of the segments and see how obvious and logical the periods and groups are. In a classroom period of table construction, the common (fun) experience of all to make their own periodic table (and to keep it for themselves - perhaps to show to parents, siblings, etc.- and then need to explain something about it) provides, initially, an interpersonal shared experience with classmates, and then a sense (and reality) of ownership of the table. The flat tables will always be there for quick and easy reference, but the foundation for that table, will be solid - literally! The classroom size set of 36 hands-on interactive version 3D periodic tables - to fill in all but the element numbers - is accompanied by 2 of the familiar AAE DeskToppers. The surface of the interactive version will accept color and lettering, but the DeskTopper already has data printed in color. Both versions are diecut for easy assembly into a 3D model. During this overstock sale your school can purchase a package of 3 sets of 12 interactive AAEs plus two DeskToppers for just $80.30, (a $160+ value - 50% discount.) If insufficient class time is available for student participation to include the data entry (or this is done another way,) sixteen DeskToppers may be purchased separately for students to experience the key aspect of the value of the 3D periodic table - explained in the italicised segment above. The AAE DeskTopper Model, 5-3/8" tall, can be assembled in minutes. It is printed in full color, with elements up to 118. Two sets of DeskToppers will match the full classroom size of the combination offer above, and each set is only $69.01 (a $200+ value - 50% discount.) |
